Tributes are being shared after the tragic passing of 17-year-old Texas student Austin Metcalf, who lost his life after being stabbed at a track and field event.

Frisco Police and Fire responded to an incident on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Authorities reported that an altercation between two students led to one of them being stabbed. The victim was Austin, who had attended the event with his twin brother.

As news of the incident spread, social media users expressed their sadness and condolences. Many described the attack as senseless and heartbreaking.

Austin’s last post on X, written just days before, gained attention after his passing. In his message, he expressed faith that his hard work would pay off. Many who saw the post shared messages of support, remembering him for his positive attitude and strong character.

Reports indicate that Austin was involved in a disagreement with another athlete, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, at the track and field event. The two had not met before that day. The altercation reportedly began when Austin asked Anthony to move from a seating area belonging to Frisco Memorial High School.

Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, was there when it happened. He explained that Austin told Anthony to move, and Anthony responded by refusing. Moments later, Anthony reportedly reached into his backpack, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Austin in the chest.

Hunter tried to help his brother, holding him while waiting for emergency responders. He also called their parents as Austin was placed on a stretcher.

Austin and Hunter’s father, Jeff Metcalf, later spoke about the loss. He said he rushed to the hospital, hoping for the best, but doctors could not save Austin. He described his son as a leader and someone whose passion for football was unmatched.

Authorities arrested Karmelo Anthony and charged him with first-degree murder. He is currently in custody with bond set at $1 million.

Anthony’s father later defended his son, saying he was not the one who started the altercation. However, the investigation is ongoing.

Austin’s family, friends, and community continue to mourn his loss, remembering him for the impact he had on those around him.
